PPHE prepares to join event on 29th March

Hotels get ready to switch off for Global Event.

21 February 2014 -  PPHE Hotel Group Limited, owner and operator of primarily full service upscale and lifestyle hotels including Park Plaza® Hotels & Resorts in Europe, art’otel and Arenaturist is proud to be supporting WWF’s Earth Hour on 29 March 2014, the world’s largest annual campaign for action to protect the planet.

In 2013 WWF’s Earth Hour completed another record-breaking sweep around the planet on Saturday 23 March. Millions of people united again to make clear that we're determined to create a sustainable future for our planet.
This year, WWF’s Earth Hour will take place on 29 March 2014 at 8.30pm and will see millions of people, landmarks and businesses across the world switch off their lights with the aim of supporting a world with a brighter future.

Park Plaza® Hotels & Resorts and art’otels across Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Croatia and the United Kingdom are supporting WWF’s Earth Hour and the environmental cause it so passionately champions. Each hotel will carry out various initiatives including dining by candlelight, ‘Earth Hour Happy Hour’ in bar areas and the turning off of exterior signage.  PPHE Hotel Group will also be dimming the lights on its social media and website channels.

Andrew Swindells, Chief Operating Officer, PPHE Hotel Group comments: “I am proud that we are once again supporting this important event and that so many of our hotels are actively encouraging all employees to get involved.  PPHE Hotel Group is dedicated to supporting local environmental and community responsibilities and each employee is fully committed to the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy.”

Rachel Bloodworth, spokesperson for WWF-UK, comments: “WWF’s Earth Hour 2013 is more than just an hour of darkness.  It’s a chance for people to come together and send out a global message about protecting our planet.  We all want a brighter future so as we switch off the lights this year the focus will be on the kind of energy we use.  Our planet needs us to move away from dirty fossil fuels to clean renewable energy, but we need to make that change right now.  By taking one simple step to switch off you’ll become part of something incredible to make that change a reality.”
