Discover Istrian Gastronomy this summer

Istrian Gastronomy experiences at Park Plaza Histria Pula

29th April 2013: “Wine School”, Olive Oil Tastings on the terrace and evenings of traditional Istrian gastronomy are all experiences available to guests staying this summer at Park Plaza Histria hotel, Pula
Located a short drive from the Roman city of Pula, on the Southern Istrian peninsula, Park Plaza Histria sits on a hill, surrounded by hidden coves, clean beaches, woodland and crystal clear Mediterranean waters.

Renowned for its gastronomic wealth, Istria is a rich truffle-growing region as well as producing the country’s best wines from unique native grapes. Olive oil, home-made pasta and excellent seafood are other products that feature heavily in Croatian cuisine.

Guests at Park Plaza Histria this summer can take part in a range of culinary experiences on site, including wine tasting evenings held in Luna’s cocktail bar on the sun-filled terrace of the hotel, tasting evenings where Chefs will cook a menu of local delicacies, olive oil guided samplings and a “sparkling wine” school – hosted by MISAL vineyards, the country’s largest producer of Croatian sparkling wine, or “pjenušavo vino”.

The concierge desk can also arrange escorted tours of local vineyards, farmer’s markets and olive oil producers on request.

Pula is the largest city within the Istrian peninsula, the most western point of the Republic of Croatia in the heart of the Adriatic Sea. It offers unspoilt natural beauty and is home to many ancient Roman buildings including the magnificent and well-preserved amphitheatre, The Arena, dating back to the 1st century AD.

Istria hosts a number of food festivals, but the best time for foodies to visit is Autumn: - September – November: for the ‘Days of Truffles’ events - October: for the Marunada festival dedicated to chestnuts and the international Prosciutto fair - Mid-November: for the “Days of New Olive Oil” exhibitionAnd in May: The Vinistra wine exhibition
